Bar none one of the most versatile trout flies that I use. If I am fishing with dry flies in the summer in Idaho, there is a very good chance I’ll have one of these tied on. I spend more time fishing with this pattern than any other that I can think of on the South Fork of the Snake river. The pale evening dun has also been very good to me fishing in the Midwest to imitate the varieties of the Sulphur hatch. If there is a light colored mayfly hatching, there is a very good chance the pale evening dun will work.
