The renegade pattern is one that I used a lot when I was growing up fishing small Michigan rivers. I have caught a ton of trout on this fly and still used them frequently while on the river. The renegade is basically a peacock herl body, a little gold tinsel at the bend of the hook and two colors of hackle. It is a fairly simple pattern, but the fish seem to love it. I have possibly caught more brook trout on this fly than any other. It seems to work good as an attractor pattern, during caddis hatches and can work during many other types of hatches as well. I am not sure what the fish think it is, I just know they eat it.
