Alpaca fur is probably the strongest hair of all mammals. In Peru, it is widely believed that bridges through the Andes mountains canyons were made in part with alpaca wool. Since you aren’t here to build a bridge, I’ll tell you a bit more about why alpaca wool is the worlds best dry fly tying dubbing. Tests at Gaston college in 2009 determined that alpaca fiber is essentially water repellent. The testing crew found it almost impossible to saturate the fiber. This should be triggering bells and whistles to everyone who ties dry flies!
I’ve been testing this dubbing like crazy and I have found its properties nothing short of amazing. Easy to dub with, floats like the dickens and looks great on the hook. You’ll love this stuff!
